I'm so glad that I met Mrs. Coretta Scott "da King" :) before she passed. Being in her presence and speaking with her was so amazing. I'm usually pretty calm and collective when I meet people who are in the public eye, but I acted like an Usher groupie when I met her. LOL Kanisha, member??? Kanisha makes this big elaborate speech of gratitude and here I come, "Um, I LOVE YOU!" lol what? It's fine, it's fine. LOL No one was allowed to touch my right hand for the rest of the evening, because that was the hand SHE touched. LOL I think I managed to tell her that I was at the "No More Silence" march, but I was so overwhelmed by her graceful disposition, I kinda lost it! She literally pulled you close to her, giving you her undivided attention. Your Spelman sister's are missing you! :( This couple's legacy and dreams WILL live on.
Please Know:

1.) I still just can't seem to grasp why I keep seeing men in the middle of the street, going downhill, doin 45....... in a wheelchair! I've seen two in the last four days! Atlanta, really? Oooooooo, my peoples. Well, at least the second man had electricity, coz I just DON'T understand how the first one was able to stop. And NO! Neither of these willy nillies had reflectors or blinkers.......what if a regular car came? What were they going to do- stick their foot out? In fact, I was IN a car when I spotted the electric rolling guy. Mr. Wheelchair Man almost got hit. Just can't see to grasp it...........

2.) I've also seen Skittles the Pimp twice in the last few days. First he's wearing an array of purples, adorned with accesories such as an Eggplant colored coat and an umbrella to match his suit. Then, I see him around the AUC wearing off-white creme and Carolina baby blue.....and yes-- he had a umbrella to match. Um, no rain tho! And UGH! licking his LIPS at me! That's only attractive by men that I'm interested in. And, well uh-bright colors and 70's slang aren't my steelo. Just can't seem to grasp why he was on the TRAIN! Pimps don't ride trains, they ride cadillacs! He betta ask Don Juan! CozSee, his hoes ain't on they post! lol

This negroe didn't have NUTHIN on Skittles! I wish I had a camera phone! I wish I had a CAMERA! Foolishness!

My life is a little crazy right now, but I won't complain! I just want to get done with this semester of school, you just don't know! I've gone insane by deciding to be in not ONE, but TWO ensembles this semester, still be heavily involved in college ministry, work and do intern stuff on the side. Yeah I'm crazy to have even agreed, ON TOP OF THAT, to help my old freshmen dorm with their annual week, AND do a sacred dance for someone's pageant. There are even some more things that I plan to do in the next few months that are time consuming. However, I've always worked well under pressure in the past! Let's get this thing up and running so I can move on to what's next! The best is yet to come!

On a ending note, my jazz ensemble concert went well last Saturday. I met some celebs and that's always nice. I didn't sing any wrong notes- yeaaaaaah! Gotta keep those background vocals tight! Lyrics are still questionable, but it was coo. I need to relax though, but being around people that can REALLY sing makes me nervous! (Kamaria-mmm. I DO NOT CARE! Kanisha- you hefa! Leah- angelic melodious therapy! Imani and I agreed that we're learning that song to sing to our man! lol Imani- you killed your solo! and yes girl, we'd rather WAIT for our champ instead of dating CHUMPS! hahaha! Yes mah sistah, we are going to murder that song! and Jim- love your England accent!)

Her dress was so FLY I didn't recognize she was Victoria Rowell until she approached us. Yeah, buddy she loved us! :) Don't she look good, coz ya'll know she about 40

Can you guess who the other two actors are? :) They rushed to jump in and I was like, huh? OH,ok! lol

I really need to take my behind home. Why am I still at Spelman's campus???? It's MYSPACE! I swear the devil did it!

Last night, I bought this book that I've been meaning to read since the summertime. I know, I know. It's titled "All You Need to Know About the Music Business" by Donald- um his last name slipped me! Anyway, I was so happy because I made such a big investment in my future- and I got it on sale for $14. :) But really, I'm tired of getting second hand information about apart of my life that's so important. It's good to have people school you that already have the info, but why not educate yourself through your own learning too??? So my book should be here next week; real excited about that! And besides, I am not a peach! I refuse to become a victim of an oakey doke-- there's no wool over my eyes buddy! (LOL)

Well, Jazzman's performance was postponed to next week. I had an unexpected business meeting. However, I have to sing on Saturday with the Jazz Ensemble. I have a feature on "Sentimental Mood." Please know that I joined last week, so let's put two-n-two together.........Yeah, I'm nervous. But I've decided that I will not be intimidated. Because then, I'll REALLY sound a hot mess. We just don't want that. I had my voice recorder today at rehearsal so I can memorize everything.I have to know so many songs in um, less than a day. I'll be aight tho'! I can do this!

Ok, I'm going to go listen to one of my new favorite background vocals! ( they're the best part of the song, that's why I love singing them) It's the remake of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," a song called "Night Winds, and --well shoot! ALL of them. Her name is Sharon Youngblood. She's on myspace music. Please go listen to her; then you'll understand why I JUST don't care anymore! Nope. I hear those blends and I be like "SO!" lol

I would like to say how disturbed I was to get a myspace message from an adult entertainment promoter.......scuse me! They call me "Shiena Sneed is What You Need," but they don't need ME. First of all, if anyone knows me they will understand the oxymoron of that situation LOL........

Shiena + adult entertainment= a what? a hot mess! I was so appalled and dismantled no, i was befuddled...that's what I was. Apparently this bisexual woman knew a producer that's lookin for vocalists. Well I don't sing those notes! Nope. When I clicked on her profile and saw that picture ( and this is when my body begin to shiver with disgust- Mufasa! ooooooh!), I immeadiately begin to seek God in prayer. I needed a miracle- I WANTED to be blind.

Switching subjects, my friend Sarah is about to have her baby in a week or so. I'm actually at her house now. I can't wait to see little Winston. We've had many conversations and he told me that he's excited to kick it with Auntie Sheen! Yes, he did, hush. Babies are a joy to the world, I love chidren. Especially when they're around 3 and 4 years old. They say the most ingenuous things. I met this 4-year old, diva-in-training, last month on the airplane; she told her 8-year old brother, "You don't tell me what to do, I'm a GROWWWWWN woman!" Ha! I fell out, you never know what kids are going to say.

Well I'm off to write....the muse is callin a sista' ( don't worry, you'll hear my songs soon!)

XOXO

Oh Jazzman's..........

Every Thursday night Jazzman's Cafe has an Open Mic, so I decided that I would be apart. Well actually, I really didn't have a choice because my voice teacher insists I perform constantly to reduce tension when I sing. ( It makes it hard to manage your breath when your muscles are tight)

So my roomie and I head out so I can conquer this thing! After going through a billion songs, we decide that "Sweet Thang" by Mary J. Blige would be coo. Ya know, something the crowd would remember and say " Oh that was the SONG!" And the band behind me should be able to catch it, right?

Nope. The band definitely didn't start playing on the beat that SHIENA was singing to. Not to mention, I came on stage after some guy who failed at pronouncing any of his lyrics. Yeah, the crowd had died JUST a little. While singing I'm thinking, " OMG, why ME!?! Why me???" But hey, despite the kinks, the performance wasn't bad. If you survive an AUC crowd , you just might make it elsewhere. (We will boo and key you in a minute! lol) I don't think they expected those low notes, but yeah buddy, Toni Braxton and I have great sing-a-alongs together!

Well, we shall see the outcome of next week as I overcome these performance jitters. I'm used to being in the back holding down that bottom note. This "stand alone and sing" thing is kinda foreign to me.....but it's fun! :)

XOXO

I just want to make a public announcement that God is soooo good. I've grown to a point in my relationship with Him where I no longer rejoice over the material things that He presents to me. Instead, I thank Him for His favor, because that's what allows me to receive the tangible. When God chooses you to receive His favor, He wants to you use to change your environment. He'll do things where people around you can only give God the credit.

I'm not sure about anyone else, but my concern is that His glory be revealed in my life. Coz it's not about me! Having favor is a beautiful thing. It ain't fair but, it opens doors that would usually be closed. Not because I'm perfect or because of anything I've done, but just because God likes me, LOVES me. I know, I know- who woulda thunk!?!

And now I want to express my desires for the next six months or so. Get it in the atmosphere, ya know buddy? Every chance that arises, I speak and write what I want to happen in my life, until it manifests itself. Life and death lie in the words you speak, so here's my expectations:

* Learn how to play on those keys!* oh yeah!

* Intern in Los Angeles this summer*--- ( Shanice, your staff should just go ahead and hire me--it'll be good times! )

* Driver's License *- need to take my test

* Fine tune my music ear even more- gotta keep those BGV's tight *

* Educate myself on artists that I never had a chance to hear before. *I have a list of about 70, and it continues to grow. But I've listened to Ella, Sara, Donny, Vanessa Rubin, and Nina Simone so far. :) If you know you're ignorant and you don't do anything about it, you have just become a fool.

* Become more patient*--- it's very necessary!

If you have any expectations for your life, write them down and speak them until they happen. If you want it, believe that with God nothing is impossible. :)

There is nothing like Spelman Sisterhood. I am elated to say that I can call my fellow spelmanites, and they are there for me, no questions asked! There is a great reciprocity of genuine friendship that is indescribable. Yes, because I am sooooo sensitive, I always get a little water in my eyes when my sisters come through or do a random act of kindness. It's great to know I do have people in my life who treat me the way I treat them. So kudos to my Spelman homegirls, you ladies are the business!

Now, I gotta say something about the infamous forehead kiss. My friend was on the phone telling me about it, so I have to address it. Oh yeah, buddy. Let's talk about it. I have several male friends, and we've discussed the intimacy behind this sweet gesture. Again I say, "DON'T KISS A WOMAN ON THE FOREHEAD UNLESS YOU MEAN IT!" There is something about this kiss that makes a woman numb with innocent silent giddy. That's why it is so important for men to kiss with caution. Because believe me, that woman is going to crush on you for real. She may not tell you but inside, her stomach is the track for butterflies to run in the summer Olympics. Yes, she's hot, very hot to point where her heart melts in your hand. And that's real. LOL, oh yeah.

I had a great New Year's Eve....guess what I did? absolutely nothin. Yep, it was wonderful, I laid in bed with the lights off all day, played my Kirk Franklin and chillllllled. I was in and out of sleep during the countdown, but I woke up and said a prayer of thanks and went RIGHT back to sleep. I attempted to call some of my friends, but no one answered their phone, so yep- I went right back to snoozeville. Happy New Year!

xoxo
